Overview

Games4Peace is a casual gaming platform designed to make philanthropy more accessible by transforming everyday play into real-world impact.

As the UI/UX Designer, I worked across research, interaction design, and visual design to shape the core experience—from onboarding and game discovery to impact tracking and profile systems.

01 — THE PROBLEM

Why existing platforms fall short

While many donation platforms aim to support global relief efforts, they often struggle with:

01

High friction

Complex sign-up and donation flows discourage participation

02

Abstract feedback

Delayed or unclear impact reporting weakens emotional connection

03

Limited engagement

Users rarely return after one-time actions

At the same time, casual games are highly engaging but typically disconnected from meaningful outcomes. Games4Peace explores how play, motivation, and social good can coexist within a single product experience.

Strategic Analysis

SWOT Analysis

Identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to inform design decisions

Strengths

  • Unique fundraising model: making philanthropy accessible and fun
  • Low barrier to participation: Users can contribute just by playing games, watching ads, or sharing
  • Strong emotional mission: Directly tied to global relief efforts (UNRWA, Save the Children, etc.)
  • Scalability through virality: Social media integration naturally encourages viral growth
  • Transparency potential: Clear, traceable donation flow builds trust with users and sponsors

Weaknesses

  • Limited game variety: Casual mini-games may feel basic or repetitive
  • Dependency on ad revenue: Reliance on fluctuating ad markets and sponsorships can make income unstable
  • Low immediate user gratification: The social impact is indirect
  • Early-stage awareness gap: As a new nonprofit brand, it needs consistent storytelling and PR to gain legitimacy

Opportunities

  • Expanding partnerships: Collaborate with game studios, YouTubers, Twitch streamers, or educational institutions
  • Gamified impact tracking: Add user avatars or 'impact badges' to visualize collective change
  • Mobile app or browser extension: Allow casual giving on-the-go or through background play
  • Corporate social responsibility: Partner with brands seeking ethical ad placements or philanthropic visibility
  • AI/analytics integration: Personalize challenges or donation causes based on user behavior

Threats

  • User fatigue: Without fresh games or regular impact updates, engagement could decline
  • Trust and transparency scrutiny: Any delays in fund distribution or unclear metrics can harm reputation
  • Ad-blockers and privacy concerns: Reduced ad impressions can directly affect donation income
  • Platform saturation: The casual gaming space is crowded, standing out requires distinct storytelling

Takeaway

Key Takeaway

This project demonstrated that meaningful social impact doesn't require sacrificing user engagement. By carefully integrating impact visibility into every touchpoint of the gaming experience, we created a platform where play and purpose reinforce each other.

The key insight was that users don't need to choose between entertainment and contribution— when designed thoughtfully, these can be the same action.
